About
The Valler Foundation was established to support research and studies in the fields of Education with an emphasis on Jewish studies.
The foundation was established by Yaron Valler in honor of his family. Yaron became acquainted with the field of Jewish studies through the research of his mother, Prof. Shulamit Valler, Prof. Emeritus of the Department of Jewish History and Biblical Studies at the University of Haifa.
Prof. Shulamit Valler was the first woman in Israel to receive a doctorate in Talmud. She came to the Department of Jewish History at the University of Haifa in 1989 after working for many years in the Ministry of Education as responsible for writing curricula and textbooks in Judaism for public schools and as coordinator of Jewish Studies in these schools.
As part of her work in the Department of Jewish History, she, in collaboration with two colleagues, established a MA program in Talmud and Midrash studies and headed it for many years.
Prof. Valler also established shared MA tracks with the Department of Hebrew and Comparative Literature and with the Faculty of Law. She mentored over thirty research students working toward Masters and Doctoral degrees and has published dozens of articles and seven research books dealing with Talmudic literature.
Today Prof. Valler continues to study and research both herself and in collaboration with some of the doctoral students she has supervised over the years.
Yaron Valler is a graduate of the Faculty of Information Systems at Ben-Gurion University and holds a master's degree in business administration from INSEAD in France. Yaron is an entrepreneur and venture capitalist and is currently managing Target Global, a global venture capital fund.
Yaron and the Valler family support a variety of philanthropic projects around the world, including those that promote the humanities in academia. Yaron sees great importance in these projects and is proud to support causes that contribute to the dissemination of knowledge and the eradication of ignorance
